Overview

You will learn how to administer the NEC contracts, avoid common pitfalls and problems that can arise when using this type of contract, as well as considering key factors such as pricing and negotiating terms.

Course Pre-requisites

Basic knowledge of construction contracts.

Delegates should bring a copy of the Standard Contract – the NEC: Engineering & Construction Contract.

How to successfully administer the NEC Contract

  • The Early Warning Process (followed by work group activities)
  • The Accepted Programme (followed by a worked example of the concept of float)
  • The Compensation Event Process (followed by work group activities) 
    Money, Resources and securing entitlement (followed by work group activity)

Things to look out for

  • Identification of any particularly onerous or otherwise noteworthy clauses, and also common pitfalls
  • Suggested amendments
  • Common points of misunderstanding
