Learning Objectives

  • Analyse the process of making a Compulsory Purchase Order
  • Appreciate how the Public Inquiry process works, and how legislation/case law affects claims
  • Identify claimable items, construct a compensation claim and present your claim
  • Calculate the compensation entitlement when no land is taken and implement the necessary claim procedure

Course Structure

The course will use a presentation and activities to provide an overview of the CPO process including, challenging a CPO, the components of the claim, severance and no land taken claims, calculating the claim, the presentation of the claim and responses, and the CPO dispute process. Delegates will also be asked to split into two groups in which one group will act for the Acquiring Authority and the other half for the claimant where the claims will be presented and debated.
