This diploma appeals to those who are seeking to act as international arbitrators and/or professionals who could be representing parties in arbitration situations. Local presenters have been recruited for 2018 to bring real-time arbitration applications and experiences, but still keep the international standard with seasoned course designers and moderators.


Course information

  • Focused specifically on the built environment and related sectors.
  • A distance learning, blended course delivered through the RICS Online Academy, with video and live online interactive tutorials, as well as face to face tutorials.
  • Candidates will be required to pass two written assessments.
  • The course is split into 11 comprehensive study modules, plus revision exercises, introduced at (approximately) monthly intervals over a 12-month period.
  • Module 12 is optional as a stand-alone module to get insight to 'The Application of South African Law and the Law of Contract, Delict and Evidenc'

Candidates enrolled on the course will be supplied with a copy of the compulsory reading material, ‘International Arbitration’ by Redfern and Hunter.

Further practical experience and mentoring would be recommended for those seeking to practise as an arbitrator. Candidates that successfully complete the course may apply to join RICS International Panel of Dispute Resolvers

The Diploma is intended for those who are seeking to act as international arbitrators and/or professionals who could be representing parties in arbitration situations.


About the diploma

We have been running a UK-based arbitration diploma in South Africa since 2014.

We are actively recruiting for all types of dispute resolvers and expert witnesses to join the RICS International Panel of Dispute Resolvers. Arbitration is a popular dispute resolution mechanism in this region and we are keen to have more built environment specialist arbitrators on the panel.

This diploma qualification will be one of the criteria for acceptance onto the panel.

The arbitration qualifications have been developed by the RICS International Arbitration design and moderating consisting of:
