This seminar will look at the source of prolongation claims and what they comprise in terms of quantum and delay analysis. It will examine the types of cost which should be included in such claims and also those which are not relevant. Various methods of valuation and their application will be discussed. The compilation and presentation of prolongation claims including the necessary supporting documentation, particularly with regard to quantum, will be examined. The conflation of delay and disruption costs will be also addressed, including how to distinguish one for the other.
From a delay perspective, the presentation will discuss the identification of compensable delay and how the completed delay analysis feeds into the quantum calculation. A worked example of a simple delay analysis and its application to assessing compensable time related costs will be presented. It will also touch on some other important issues such as neutral events, concurrent delay, mitigation and acceleration.
