Productivity Monitoring and the value of reporting this in the Contracting Industry

Emphasis will be on the work involved in working within a contactors organization as opposed to the Private Q.S (Clients Representative). The differences are profound and require certain skills in working within the Contractors organisation.

The seminar will focus on:

  • Important set up of gathering data.
  • The recognition of the QS within the organization.
  • The QS functions.
  • Administering cash flow and an explanation of how this impacts the viability of the project.
  • Setting up site monitoring gathering of data and utilizing the information.
  • How to organize the collection of data and how to work with the site engineers to monitor and increase productivity.

Learning outcomes

Attendees will gain an understanding of:

  • The importance of the information gathered by the QS and her/his team to the whole viability of the project.
  • Working with the supervision team both in the contractor’s office and on site.
  • Setting up a robust in-house system which captures all the data to ensure the accurate reporting, recording of progress, variations and delays, back charges to suppliers and subcontractors, picking up health and safety violations and working with QA team to link the site measurement with certificates and final accounts.

Meet the speaker

For the past 5 years, Keith Bennett has acted as Contract Director of Saudi Bin Ladin Public Buildings and Airports Division. Keith has held various senior positions in the past including CEO of a British consultancy firm in the UAE and also acted as Contract Administrator on many large iconic building developments throughout the Middle East.

Prior to moving back to the Middle East in 2007, Keith was the Property Director of a large retail property company in the UK. He has extensive experience as a Quantity Surveyor in Contract Administration, Disputes, Claims, negotiating and agreeing complex joint venture agreements for multi-national contracts.
