Good Commercial Management is crucial to successful on-time, on-budget delivery. This course teaches the fundamentals of the Commercial Manager role.
From gaining a crucial insight into Infrastructure world, as well as a deeper understanding of your main stakeholders, learners will work on developing and managing a good client relationship, cost planning, tendering processes and risk management in an infrastructure environment. This diverse range of topics gives learners the skills and knowledge required to successfully manage the commercial activity on an Infrastructure Programme.
Structured over six months, learners will work through units made of topical and related e-learning material, practical case studies, reading content as selected by the dedicated course tutors and discussion questions that prompt peer to peer sharing, building a strong networking opportunity and best practice learning area for all learners.
At the mid- and end-point of the programme, there will be a live web class consolidation session. This will be an opportunity for learners to consolidate their existing knowledge. Within this session delegates will be able to share their own practical examples, discuss practical methods and gain skills and knowledge through discussion and questions with an experienced quantity surveying professional.

As a commercial manager in infrastructure your role is crucial to ensure the commercial success of a programme through cost planning, client management, collaboration, supply chain management and risk mitigation.
Our course covers the main skills that are required to become a commercial manager in infrastructure. Upon completion, you will have the practical knowledge required to successfully manage the commercial activity on an Infrastructure Programme whether it be road, rail, energy or telecommunications.
This course is suitable for infrastructure and construction professionals in either surveying, project management or engineering, who are looking to gain commercial management skills. It is recommended if considering this course that you have at least three years of professional experience as a QS, engineer or project manager. Program Managers and existing Commercial Managers who want to develop their commercial skills in order for them to lead on infrastructure projects would also be suitable attendees.
The course is composed of six units covering:
At the conclusion of the unit there will be a final online examination. The exam will be available once all the units have been completed. The exam will be two hours long and in a multiple choice format. Delegates will have two attempts to complete the exam.
Upon successful completion of the course delegates would have completed 150 CPD hours study over the six month period. Delegates will also receive a certificate of course completion confirming they have successfully attended and passed the RICS Commercial Management in Infrastructure course.
Total duration of course is six months.
