REITs are required, by law, to distribute nearly all net income as dividends, and this sometimes leads to them being portrayed as fixed income. However, like all other equity products, the price of a REIT reflects its underlying fundamentals and the state of its business. Thus, investors and analysts must consider the business strategies of a REIT when they consider investing in REITS.
Through real-world examples, this seminar will review and discuss the major operating, investing, and financing strategies available to REITs. We expect participants to get become more familiar with why some REITs are substantially more attractive than others.
