Programme overview

The suite of contracts published by FIDIC (Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils) are widely used on international construction projects, and the number of countries with projects adopting FIDIC contracts has increased rapidly. Understanding each party’s rights and responsibilities under these contracts, being able to effectively manage any claims that arise under FIDIC and knowing how to avoid such issues will give construction professionals a distinctive advantage.

This course is the first part of FIDIC Contract Masterclass series designed to provide you with the fundamental grounding in the FIDIC suite of contracts and relevant conditions and build your competence working with FIDIC contracts as employers, contractors and consultants.

Meet the trainer:

David Lockwood FRICS

David Lockwood qualified as a chartered quantity surveyor in 1990 and chartered project management surveyor in 2002. David holds a Master’s Degree (with distinction) in Construction Law and Arbitration from a leading UK University.

David has 30 years’ experience in construction gained in the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Vietnam. He has held general director positions for two leading international cost and project management firms responsible for up to 80 staff in Vietnam and working on over 50 key real estate and infrastructure projects totalling several billion dollars.

David is a recommended foreign arbitrator under the Pacific International Arbitration Centre (PIAC) located in Ho Chi Minh City and has participated in arbitrations and mediations in Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong, including expert witness services for an international arbitration hearing held at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre involving a dispute involving a major infrastructure project in Vietnam.

David is an Accredited RICS Trainer and Assessor and is a regular speaker at seminars in Southeast Asia in the areas of particular expertise listed below.
