Pledge150: Pledge to end youth homelessness

If you lost everything tomorrow, what would it take to rebuild your life?

This year over 80,000 young people in the UK will be homeless. Homelessness doesn’t just mean sleeping on the streets, it is a much wider issue. Homelessness means not having a place to call home — a place that is secure, decent and affordable and where you have a right to stay.

Pledge to end youth homelessness

Youth homelessness is a problem that can be solved, and we, along with our professionals, can play a vital role. With investment in the right support services and secure accommodation, we can protect our young people from facing life in an overcrowded hostel, moving from sofa to sofa or even living on the streets.

As part of our 150-year anniversary in 2018, we want to highlight our public interest responsibility and the value of the surveying profession in developing influential solutions to society’s challenges in the UK.

We are partnering with LandAid, the property industry charity, to deliver an inspirational programme to help end youth homelessness and deliver the biggest ever, single fundraising initiative in LandAid’s history.

Our fundraising programme will enable LandAid to fund the provision of 150 bed spaces across all 12 RICS UK regions. RICS professionals will also have the opportunity to register their interest to provide pro bono support to local front line charities.

We need your support

It costs around £15,000 to provide one bed space — we need your support to help raise the funds and deliver our mission to end youth homelessness.

Every donation counts — if every RICS professional gives just £30 (less than £2 per month, 5p a day) by December 2018, our Pledge150 legacy will be achieved and together, we will have made a significant contribution to ending youth homelessness.

While it costs around £15,000 to bring a bed space back to life, every penny will make a real difference and takes the project a step closer to changing young people’s lives.

How can you make a difference?

Join your regional fundraising team to help us raise the funds required to deliver the target number of bed spaces. Pledge your property skills

There may be opportunities to provide pro bono support to local projects through LandAid’s pro bono programme. The type of advice needed will be dependent on the property issues of the frontline charities in your area. Using your property skills to support LandAid is a simple and rewarding way to make a difference. By giving your property expertise, you can gain a real and satisfying level of engagement with charities and work alongside other companies as part of LandAid’s network.

Thank you to our supporters

The companies below have made a significant contribution to the Pledge150 campaign. A generous donation of £15,000 from each firm will provide one bed space and provide a safe, supported accommodation for a young person at severe risk of homelessness.
